Jamón Jamón Delicatessen

Known for their sandwiches on barra gallega (traditional Spanish baguette bread) Jamón Jamón is a popular lunch hotspot in Haarlem, and for good reason. Their menu is extensive, featuring crowd-pleasing combinations like serrano ham, goat’s cheese, honey, and plenty of vegetarian sandwiches. Don't miss out on the selection of Spanish delicacies, which are perfect for enjoying in the sunshine if you're lucky enough to grab one of the free tables.

Frenchie

Restaurant Frenchie highlights Haarlem's culinary scene with its fresh twist on traditional French gastronomy. Frenchie offers both casual breakfast and lunch with dishes like beef tartare on brioche topped with a poached egg or luxurious spins on a croque monsieur (an indulgent cheese and ham sandwich), plus apple tartine and spiced almond cake for dessert. The restaurant also has a fine dining option in the evening, with four-and-a-half and six-course tasting menus.

A stylish coffee bar run by two sisters, Mica's interior is inspired by the Scandinavian "hyggelige" hangouts of Copenhagen. Its coffee isn't bad either, brewed using award-winning Bonanza coffee beans from Berlin. A beautifully designed space, no matter what beverage you fancy, boasting a scintillating range of teas - you'll feel right at home at Mica. If you're hungry, it offers a range of delectable homemade treats each day, including croissants, cakes and smoothie bowls.

Café Colette

Step out of Haarlem and travel to a French bistro in New York at Café Colette. Here, you can indulge in all the delectable classics of a Parisian bistro, including bouillabaisse, escargots and crème brûlée. The interior is an elegant mix of fresh white, ambient lighting and row upon row of rotisserie chickens turning a golden brown before your eyes.

Fortuyn

With large, open windows, Fortuyn might be the best place in the Grote Markt to watch life in the city unfold. The coffee is excellent, and the food menu is long and brimming with tasty things to try. In addition to burgers—choose from Hereford beef or chickpea and aubergine—cooked in the Josper oven, there are sandwiches, soup, salads, bar bites, and more.

Roast Chicken Bar & Egg Store

At Roast Chicken Bar at night, it’s all about - surprise - chicken. Chicken from the charcoal grill that is. Best enjoyed with a local beer or gin and tonic. In the daytime, the Roast Chicken Bar transforms into the Egg Store, with poached eggs served on thick slices of ham, salmon or avocado. Because the egg came first, after all. Didn't it?

Restaurant De Zeeuw

You’ll find De Zeeuw close to Haarlem’s bustling shopping district. As atmospheric as any Saint-Germain or Le Marais establishment in Paris, it's a meeting place for gourmands who have a penchant for great food at affordable prices. Enjoy a set menu with four to seven courses featuring fresh, seasonal produce. For those intrigued by how the kitchen works, a table for three that overlooks the kitchen is available to book.

Nolita

With a striped red awning and a wooden exterior, Nolita Haarlem packs plenty of retro appeal as the city’s local pizza parlour. One for the thin crust lovers, tuck into classics like anchovy and caper-heavy Napoletana pizza or the herby goodness of a Finocchiona, topped with fennel salami and artichokes. And while pizza is the star here, the gnocchi starter with spinach, gorgonzola and walnuts is a big hit with guests.
