Coach policies in Amsterdam

As of January 1, 2024, Amsterdam has implemented regulations affecting coach travel within the city:

  • City Centre Restrictions: Coaches weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are prohibited from entering the city centre (within the S100 ring) without an exemption. This measure aims to reduce congestion, protect historic infrastructure, and minimise emissions.
  • Designated Boarding and Disembarking Points: Passengers can board and disembark at specified locations on the outskirts of the city centre, such as De Ruijterkade Oost near Amsterdam Central Station. Additional stops are available at stations like Lelylaan and Holendrecht, which are easily accessible from the A10 motorway and offer swift transfers to public transport for convenient travel into the city.
  • Exemptions: Permits allowing access to the city centre are issued only for coaches transporting specific groups, including children under 12, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, or artists participating in cultural performances. These exemptions are typically granted for trips to educational, cultural, or art institutions.
