First-time visitors to Amsterdam can often be seen walking past this stall with their noses closed. Too bad, as the fish of Vishandel Albert Cuyp is one of the freshest and most delicious in Amsterdam. This stall has been on the famous market for more than 65 years and for a good reason. So order your herring and walk around in the beautiful De Pijp neighbourhood.

Vishandel 't Centrum

This small but lovely fishmonger's shop has been hidden in the Jordaan in Amsterdam for more than 50 years. Yes, the shop fills up quickly, but it's definitely worth the wait. Get a herring cleaned in front of you and eat it at the bar or stroll alongside Amsterdam's grand canals and cobbled streets.

Stubbe's Haring

Almost every Amsterdammer knows this fish stall on the Singel because many locals come here to get a herring after work. The herring is served on a sheet of wax, which is different from those rectangular snack plates. The tastiest way to eat is directly in front of the cart!

Vis op Zuid

Although most fishmongers have been around for years, Vis op Zuid is very good at keeping up with the old guard. This relatively young company attracts much attention with its super fresh herring that almost melts on your tongue. Vis op Zuid is open until 6.30 pm on weekdays. Very handy if you still feel like some fish after work.
