Castell
Within walking distance of the Leidseplein you will find Castell, a local favourite in Amsterdam. Their steaks are served until after midnight on weekends. Because of its location on the water, you can even order food from your boat.
Castell's roots
On 1 February 1999, Pijke ter Burg entered Restaurant Castell with a wine opener in his pocket. It soon became apparent that everything Castell presents is exactly what Pijke stands for. The class, the food, the finery. But also the Amsterdam living room vibe, which is so characteristic of Castell. In 2003, Pijke thought it was time to take over Castell together with Ritske, who had been its bartender for 13 years. With the help of a great team, the duo took Castell to a higher level. By focussing on business, entrepreneurship and tourism, they were able to ensure that everything went well. “We were in a flow,” says Pijke. In 2010, Ritske took a well-deserved retirement. Pijke remained, to live and die for Castell.
