Cello Biennale: Cello Concours Second round

To elect

In the first round of the National Cello Competition, the participants always play a new composition, the commissioned work. During this anniversary edition, the participants can choose from one of the commissions from the previous competitions in the second round. Since the first edition in 2006, these commissions have been given to Theo Verbey, Oene van Geel, Wilbert Bulsink, Yannis Kyriakides, Micha Hamel, Rob Zuidam, Theo Loevendie, Martijn Padding and Calliope Tsoupaki.

Chamber music skills and sense of style are judged in the Duo for violin and cello by Zoltán Kodály and in one of the variation works that Beethoven wrote for cello and piano. The pièce de résistance is the Fantasy by Efrim Zimbalist, a devilishly virtuoso work.
