Cappella Amsterdam, Berlage Saxophone Quartet + Jan Brokken - The righteous
In The righteous, based on the book of the same name by master storyteller Jan Brokken, Cappella Amsterdam presents the unknown, compelling story of the Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk. He risked his life for the freedom of others. At the beginning of the Second World War he issued visas to thousands of Jews in Kaunas (Lithuania). With this visa for Curaçao they could travel to Japan via the Trans-Siberian Express and thus escape the Holocaust.

How a Dutch consul saved thousands of Jews
In our time, the newspapers are still full of news about refugee flows, usually from outside Europe. But the dramatic war in Ukraine has suddenly created a new flashpoint within Europe, resulting in countless new refugees. In this concert we hear how the good deeds of one person can save thousands of lives. Jan Brokken himself reads the story, accompanied by choir and saxophone quartet.
