First time partication in the GDS-Movement!

The Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement) is a movement of sustainability pioneers from the world of business and leisure tourism. The aim is that business and leisure visits have little negative impact on the climate and the city, and contribute positively to the quality of life and culture.

This year we entered the GDS programme with the aim of structurally and continuously evaluating and improving our performance in the field of social, ecological and economic sustainability. The GDS-index is a benchmark system to monitor and promote activities every year with 29 countries and more than 100 destinations worldwide participating. The index assesses four categories with diverse domains: from ecology to inclusivity, from circular to governance. A destination is awarded points in the index based on concrete measures and substantiated results. Participating in the GDS-Movement helps us to actually make the tourism and events sector of our city more sustainable. Two weeks ago, during the GDS Forum, it was announced that we, as a starting participant, have done very well in the environmental and social sustainability categories. In addition, we have gained good insight into the steps we want to take with our partners in the near future.
