De Wetering

The unique Café de Wetering is in a picturesque 17th century house. Here, no loud music or other raucousness but instead quiet intellectual discussion about literature, the meaning of life and football matches. Regulars of all ages usually gather together downstairs at the tiny bar, while first-time visitors warm themselves in front of the old-fashioned open hearth upstairs.

Paulaner Biergarten Amsterdam

In the summer of 2023, the Noorderlicht team will present Paulaner Biergarten Amsterdam: the famous picnic tables on the water, fresh weiss beer and an extensive cultural program. This summer, the biergarten will also welcome the Over het IJ Festival and the Grachtenfestival. The Paulaner Biergarten Amsterdam is open six days a week from noon until late at night (closed on Tuesdays). Kitchen is open until 9pm.

Festina Lente

Festina Lente on the Looiersgracht is actually more like a cosy living room than a café. The decor is a mishmash of things and they have lots of board games available. There are wood tables, a few comfy lounge chairs and a sweet resident cat. It is the owners’ philosophy that we all take time to enjoy life. Festina Lente means ‘Make haste slowly’ in Latin, and the young crowd here take this to heart. As well as drinks you can also get reasonably priced soup, rolls, apple-pie and Mediterranean dishes.

Seven seas

Restaurant Seven Seas in Grandhotel Amrâth has a French/international cuisine and a nice selection of wines, but the most special thing is the location. It is located in the monumental Scheepvaarthuis (1914), one of the first buildings in the style of the Amsterdam School. The marble floor, wooden paneling, stained glass decorations and original details create atmosphere during the gourmet tasting.

Vapiano

On the Amstelstraat just around the corner from the Rembrandtplein you will find the famous restaurant chain Vapiano. In a casual design interior with lots of natural stone and wood, a herb garden and a real olive tree, hundreds of people can sit down for a brick oven pizza, homemade pasta or salad.

De Nieuwe Lelie

The Jordanian neighborhood pub De Nieuwe Lelie is a brown, simple pub with high shop windows (there used to be a shop here), mezzanine, art on the walls and a pool table in the downstairs area. That pool table is a real draw for younger people. Late Friday and Saturday nights there are people in their twenties drinking and talking; around the cocktail hour you will find the somewhat older regular customers here.

Monte Pelmo

On sunny days, you’ll see the queue before you see Monte Pelmo itself – a tiny ice cream shop hidden in the Jordaan. Founded in 1957, it’s often been voted the best ice cream in the city centre. After you try a scoop of their strawberry cheesecake or tiramsu flavours, you’ll probably agree.

Kantjil en De Tijger (Kantjil and The Tiger)

Nasi poetih, sate ajam, rendang, gado gado, sajoer lodegh. These are all dishes that belong to an Indonesian rice table. Restaurant Kantjil en de Tijger in Spuistraat serves authentic rice tables or à la carte dishes in an beautiful restaurant. For a quick bowl of noodles or other Asian snacks, you can go to neighbouring restaurant Kantjil To Go.
