Nature and active in NDSM

The former industrial shipyard at NDSM constantly evolves with various new initiatives to create more greenery. Even now, the neighbourhood offers several wonderful places to relax, stay active, and get closer to nature and the community.

Pllek

In addition to a delicious menu, this restaurant bar and cultural hotspot boasts a stunning urban beach with a beautiful view over the River IJ. On summer evenings, locals love to lounge in the deckchairs watching live music performances or perhaps an open-air film screening. Throughout the year, Pllek also offers yoga sessions directly on the sand or indoors if the weather is bad. Keep an eye on their class schedule for more creative ways to stay active.

Cycle routes

De Twiskemolen in Het Twiske is located between Landsmeer and Oostzaan.

NDSM is the gateway to some exceptionally lush Dutch countryside, with all the windmills, quaint villages, highland cows and greenery that your heart could ask for. There are several spots to rent bikes at NDSM and various scenic cycle routes heading towards the Twiske nature area. The best thing of all - as with most of the Netherlands - is that the landscape is completely flat and perfect for peddling.

Indoor sports

There’s nothing better to wake the body up again than a bit of morning stretching. You’ll find some great yoga studios in the area, including Yoga School Noord NDSM and at Pllek. Also nearby, NDSM Padel is a great place to try out a new racket sport offering indoor courts and equipment rental.

NoordOogst

Just west of NDSM, the NoordOogst Urban Agriculture Project is home to several fascinating initiatives that inspire more green thinking. Eat freshly plucked veggies, and sip local beers or delicious wines at POF. This restaurant only serves produce grown in its immediate surroundings (except for coffee and cinnamon). The project also boasts its very own nature playground for children - a challenging obstacle course surrounded by trees, wild gardens and water.
