IDFA: International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam

Each November, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) transforms Amsterdam’s city centre into a paradise for documentary film fans. Held since 1988, IDFA is the world’s largest documentary festival and features lectures, workshops and over 300 movies that tell stories about life around the world. Some are funny, others sad, and they all represent the best the genre has to offer. Screenings take place throughout the city and include outdoor showings where you can watch a film under the night sky.

Pakhuis De Zwijger

Pakhuis de Zwijger (De Zwijger warehouse) was built during the heyday of Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands area and was used as a warehouse for refrigerated goods. Podium Mozaïek is a metropolitan theatre with a café-restaurant in Amsterdam West, located in the former Pniëlkerk on Bos en Lommerweg. The Podium Mozaïek program is for young and old and offers theatre, music, comedy, spoken word, storytelling, dance and all possible crossovers in between from home and abroad. There are meetings and exchanges between young and old, residents of West and beyond. Podium Mozaïek stimulates metropolitan offerings by supporting makers and utilizing its network.

The striking architecture of the Eye Filmmuseum made it quickly become one of Amsterdam’s modern icons. Situated on the northern bank of the River IJ, just opposite Central Station, this cinema, film museum, café/restaurant and cutting-edge event location is a must-see. Eye Filmmuseum is free to visit with the I amsterdam City Card, but for some of the exhibitions there is an additional surcharge.

During a large-scale renovation of the monumental Burgerweeshuis, the Amsterdam Museum will find its temporary home here. With a completely new range of exhibitions, public programmes and children's activities. Here, the Amsterdam Museum will display an entirely new collection presentation that, besides the traditional history of Amsterdam, also offers plenty of space for dissenting voices and lesser-known and more recent histories of the city.

At the Open Space Contemporary Art Museum (OSCAM) on the Bijlmerplein you will find a place where art, fashion, design and craftsmanship in the Bijlmer come together. It is a museum in the Amsterdamse Poort shopping center in the Zuidoost district. They are located in the old Cool Cat building, diagonally opposite the KFC, between the Panda Bubble Tea Bar and Hunkemöller. You understand, between the fast food chicken, Instagram drinks and sexy lingerie, there is of course a great need for art and culture.
