Kooij’s first option is the ‘classic one-hour canal cruise’. The cruise includes the old city centre, the IJ and the harbour, the VOC ship at the National Maritime Museum, the ‘Golden Bend’ in the Herengracht, and, of course, the river Amstel with the Magere Brug (‘skinny bridge’) and the Royal Theatre Carré. Departures are every 30 minutes: on the hour and on the half hour. Guests have a choice of 10 different languages for the audio commentary, which explains the various places of interest en route.

Private boat

Those preferring to keep to themselves can also go on a private cruise through the canals of Amsterdam, for example with a wedding party or for taking business guests on a lunch or dinner cruise. For private tours, passengers can go aboard virtually anywhere in Amsterdam. A private canal cruise can also be combined with catering. A minimum duration of two hours is required for boat hire after 17:00.

Amsterdam by Candlelight

Spend an atmospheric evening travelling through the canals of Amsterdam. Seen from the water, the beautifully-lit canals and bridges take on a fairytale-like appearance. On the cruise, a multilingual guide talks about the various sights and places of interest en route.

Candlelight and background music create a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere and wine, soft drinks, a cheese selection and crackers are served. The candlelight canal cruise takes two hours. During the summer season (1 April to 31 October), the tour takes place every evening; departure point is at 21:00 at the Rokin (embark from 20:30).
