We are all made of light and shadow

“Reality does not exist. Everything is subjective.” In Nancy Poeran’s opinion there are several layers of truth. What is real and when do we consider it a created reality? She has always been interested in human psychology and identity. The serie We are all made of light and shadow reflects the complexity and diversity that takes place both in the world and within ourselves. Nancy’s work is a combination of photography combined with AI, sketch and other techniques. She creates various figures, by entering into a dialogue with artificial intelligence (AI), constantly manipulating the images and applying different techniques searching for the soul and essence. In the proces Nancy consciously use contrasts such as light and dark, organic and geometric shapes to experience how this interplay reinforces each other. 

Nancy Poeran.  After a successful career of 20 years in various managerial positions in the business world, Nancy Poeran (1975) took the exciting step to follow her passion for photography in 2020: she enrolled at the Photoacademy in Amsterdam, where she graduated in December 2023. This career change has done her no harm. In 2021, her series 'Any Body' was nominated for the Rabo Photographic Portrait Talent Prize. In 2022 and 2023, Nancy presented her series 'Women past and present' at Nyenrode University in Breukelen and Amsterdam. And shortly after her graduation, she was selected by GUP Magazine as one of the FRESH EYES International Talents 2024 and made her debut at the prestigious international photography fair Haute Photographie in Rotterdam.
