The festive opening of the exhibition The Face of Ethiopia and the celebration of the Ethiopian New Year will take place at OBA Javaplein on 14 September. Admission is free.

This year, the Buurt Museum Indische Buurt and the Ethiopian community will celebrate Ethiopian New Year for the 20th time in Amsterdam East.
In September, autumn begins in Ethiopia. The country is covered with the yellow “Meskel flowers”; this moment brings the new year. It's time to forgive and start again together. During the New Year celebration, various cultural/ritual ceremonies for adults and children take place. We want to celebrate this rich and strongly socially binding moment with the residents of Amsterdam East with a fire ritual!
The Ethiopian New Year celebration starts at 16:00. The Official opening is at 19:00.
