Grachtenfestival Amsterdam
Music on the water
The music festival attracts many visitors every year. There are always many young, talented musicians on the program, for whom the Grachtenfestival represents the next step in their career. The approximately two hundred concerts take place in countless places in the city: in churches, parks, gardens, living rooms, concert halls and of course the Amsterdam canals.
Various locations
About 30 locations will be the setting for various concerts - from classical music to jazz to music from other cultures. Past, present and future come together in contemporary combinations of musicians, genres and locations.
Check out the Grachtenfestival website for the full program, the various locations and more information and on Salto.nl/Grachtenfestival for Salto TV's coverage.
Opening concert 2024
This year the opening of the Grachtenfestival is in the hands of two young and surprising ensembles: the Nympheas Trombone Quartet and the Amswave Trio.
In "Jazzical!" the three percussionists of Amswave present works by classical composers influenced by jazz: the American George Gershwin and the Soviet composer Nikolai Kapustin. The Nympheas Trombone Quartet focuses on madrigals from the 15th and 16th centuries, a heyday for this genre in Italy. The quartet brings this rarely played music from the heyday of the madrigal back to life with works by Adriaen Willaert, Giovanni Rovetta, Giovanni Gabrieli and Josquin Desprez, among others, in new arrangements of their own.
