Breeding ground for new talent

Over the IJ has grown in recent years from a presentation location to the most important national breeding ground for urban location theater. Mick Stevens, general manager of the IJ Productions Foundation: “The IJ Festival heralds a new era: from a ten-day event to a compact, four-day celebration of the new generation of location theater makers.

This edition, 18 new makers will show their work (some work in development) to the public for the first time. We believe it is essential that dialogue with the audience is entered into through the performances. The makers vary in years of experience (from 0 to 7 years of work experience) and are coached on their maker skills by the Over het IJ team.

As a national breeding ground for urban location theater, Over het IJ has seen many makers grow throughout its history. We are proud that this is also reflected in our program this festival edition.”
