The banya prey is one of the most important moments for the Afro-Surinamese people. It is a tradition that was also known in Africa, where ancestors are honoured and life is celebrated.

The Program

Experience Prodo Banya and enjoy the stories that African descendants express through music and dance. The performances will feature dance forms and musical pieces that narrate tales of strength, pride, perseverance, and the wisdom and life lessons conveyed through music and dance.

A short Mini Du performance by NAKS Wan Rutu, “A tori fu Ida,” will also be performed. Through the maritime routes of West Africa, Cuba, Curaçao, and Suriname, Schepen, Koffers, and Kruiden will take you on a journey through diverse music and dance forms, sharing hidden life lessons and wisdom carried in imaginary suitcases. You can also enjoy authentic dishes prepared with available herbs.

In summary, Schepen, Koffers, and Kruiden present the power of the cultural and spiritual connections of authentic singing, music, and dance acts from Senegal, Cuba, Curaçao, and Suriname.
