S onic Alignments 1: A roof of sounds – Cape Town jazz & kawina

During the first edition of Sonic Alignments you are invited on a special musical journey. In A Roof of Sounds South African jazz and kawina meet in an evening full of music, stories and conversations with Denise Jannah, Dylan Valley (Cape Town), Grant Jurius (Cape Town), Marlon 'MrJetFly' Francis and Wayne Modest.

This new programme series, in collaboration with Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, RCMC and BPTUnpacks, explores how music influences our sense of home. DJs, musicians and vocalists share the sounds that move and inspire them.

Initiators

Professor Wayne Modest / Director of Content Wereldmuseum, professor of Material Culture and Critical Heritage Studies at the Vrije Universiteit and scholar in the field of Afro-Caribbean theatre.

Carine Zaayman / Artist, curator and scholar whose work focuses on the afterlives of slavery and colonialism, mainly in the Cape.

Simone Zeefuik / Writer, programme maker and tea critic whose work focuses on Blackity Black imagination and everydayness in film and theatre.
