Since 1983, the Dutch Cheese Museum has been just as inextricably linked to Alkmaar as the world-famous cheese market. Here in the Waaggebouw, the two most famous cheeses in the Netherlands are central: the small round Edam cheese and the large flat Gouda cheese.

Cheese is what you get

Over time, Alkmaar became a real cheese center. The 'cheese heads' eventually turned the small Netherlands into a large cheese-eating, producing and exporting country. We are proud of this in the cheese city of Alkmaar. The Dutch Cheese Museum is therefore happy to introduce everyone to the world of Dutch cheese.
