The Volendams Museum is a museum located in the village of Volendam, known for its traditional costumes and fishing culture. The Museum focuses on preserving and exhibiting the rich history and traditions of Volendam. Visitors can take a look at the old fishermen houses, where they can experience what life used to be like. Furthermore, there is of course the famous cigar band house. There are fun treasure hunts and a craft corner for children

Cigar band mosaic House in the Museum

One of the highlights of the museum is the Cigar Band House, which features mosaics made from 11 million cigar bands. This collection of colorful images of world-famous buildings, works of art and windmills was started in 1947 and has been one of the main attractions of the Volendams Museum since 1995.

Visit the Volendams Museum with your City Card

It is not necessary to reserve a time slot to visit this location with your City Card. Make sure your City Card is valid at the time of your visit. In the Volendams Museum you will find an extensive collection of paintings, drawings, authentic old interiors and much more. Works by famous painters such as Henricus Rol and Edwin Austrin Abbey are displayed alongside fishing equipment and traditional costumes. There are also fun activities for children.

The museum is open to groups on request.
