Artists Colour a City

Paris has Montmartre, Rome has Piazza Navona, and the Van der Pekstraat in Amsterdam Noord will soon be known as an open-air art market. On Saturday, 24 August, the Kunstmarkt Van der Pekstraat will showcase 40 young and emerging artists to the Amsterdam public. The market is organised by Pexpo Kunst van de Straat, the gallery and creative meeting space that has been located on Van der Pekstraat since 2022.

A New Role for Van der Pekstraat

The Kunstmarkt is being organised in collaboration with the Van der Pekstraat Business Association. Mike Lubben, secretary of the association and co-owner of Café Keppler, explains: “Until a few months ago, there was a market in the street. It has now moved to Mosplein, creating opportunities for new initiatives to bring people together. On Saturday, 24 August, we have the Kunstmarkt, and a month later, we will host the third edition of Amsterdam’s largest Soup Festival.”

Location and Access

The Kunstmarkt will take place in front of Pexpo, in the middle section of Van der Pekstraat, between Heimansweg and Jasmijnstraat.
