Afrovibes Performance: Act(s) and Sweats
This performance is part of the Afrovibes Festival, which will take place on 11 and 12 October at De Balie and feature a line-up of performances and talks. Act(s) and Sweats is the final part of a trilogy in which Tunisian choreographer Hamdi Dridri pays tribute to the hardworking body.
Afrovibes Performance: Act(s) and Sweats
Sound study
It is a choreography in the form of a "sound study," where Dridri transforms everyday repetitive gestures and actions into dance. He choreographs the memories carried by the body. Under Dridri's movements, working bodies emerge a gesture, a colourful scarf, a voice, a melody. He connects fragments of memories—from his family, the Middle East and Egypt, the rhythms and colours of his childhood and adolescence—with his Arab roots and a tribute to Tunis. His timeless hip-hop is enhanced by music, a mix of industrial sounds, funk, and traditional songs that touch the most sensitive emotions.
