Architecture of the Invisible
In 'Architecture of the Invisible' NDT 1 presents the world premiere of Christos Papadopoulos, a new voice for Nederlands Dans Theater, and dances the existing works 'Vanishing Twin' (2008) and 'Clowns' (2016) by Jiří Kylián and Hofesh Shechter. The new work by Christos Papadopoulos explores our subtle, everyday social connections, highlighting the beauty of the most profound connections that are often unnoticed.
Architecture of the Invisible
Ode to strength
Originally from Greece, choreographer Christos Papadopoulos is a new voice for NDT who prefers a minimalist and precise movement language. Papadopoulos pays tribute to the power of the invisible through small but intense physical gestures and takes the audience to a mysterious environment where there is no beginning or end.
Clowns (2016), Hofesh Shechter’s first work for NDT, explores the complexity of life, the fight for shared values and the raw human desire for liberation. In this revival, we can once again experience the energetic intensity of a choreography that revolves around both light and dark as opposing yet inextricably linked life forces.
The darkness and unimaginable rhythms of human life are at the heart of Jiří Kylián’s Vanishing Twin (2008). Inspired by the medical phenomenon of the same name – in which one foetus displaces its twin in the womb – the work symbolises transience, suppressed emotions and the dark side that we all know but would rather not reveal.
