Die Fledermaus

Disguises, a decadent party and an awful lot of champagne. With chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti in charge of the music and Barrie Kosky directing, Dutch National Opera will be lighting up the dark December days with ‘Waltz King’ Johann Strauss IIs most popular operetta.

The ultimate operetta

Dr. Falke, who was once ridiculed in front of all of Vienna by his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein in a bat costume, is plotting revenge. During a grand party at Prince Orlofsky's, his cunning plan comes into effect and in no time at all, misunderstandings pile up.

In his direction, Barrie Kosky not only focuses on the hilarious aspects of a practical joke that gets out of hand, but also shows the bitter dark side of the decadent Viennese society that is central to Die Fledermaus.

In a dazzling show, with impressive choreography by Otto Pichler, Kosky shows us in an engaging way a group of petty bourgeois people who together waltz their way to the abyss.
