Nino Haratischwili
Haratischwili is a theatremaker and the author of the globally acclaimed novels The Eighth Life, The Cat and the General, and The Lack of Light. She grew up in Georgia during the fall of the Soviet Union and witnessed her homeland descend into violent chaos. Drugs and poverty scarred a generation of young people. There was no work, no money, and no electricity. Theatre was her escape. She fled with her mother to Germany, where she worked as a theatre director but won over the general public with her novels.
