Nino Haratischwili
Haratischwili is a theater maker and writer of the globally acclaimed novels The Eighth Life, The Cat and the General and The Scarce Light. She grew up in Georgia at the time of the fall of the Soviet Union. Then she watched her native country descend into violent chaos. A generation of young people was scarred by drugs and poverty. There was no work, no money and no electricity. Theater was her way out. She fled to Germany with her mother. There she worked as a theater director, but she conquered the general public with her novels.
