Tips for Amsterdam Light Festival 2022
Light Gate by Edwin Baruch (US)
Flow through this monumental 11 meters tall arch, the first artwork of the Amsterdam Light Festival route. The artwork by architect and visual artist Edwin Baruch is made of illuminated metal mesh, created especially for this year's eleventh edition. Make sure your smartphone is charged, on this digital map, you can learn everything about the works and the artists.
Bloomlight by VOUW (NL)
VOUW's artwork Bloomlight consists of five giant street lanterns that light up and react to walkers and boats passing by. This Amsterdam creation senses approaching visitors and starts bending towards the first person it detects, whilst the top of the lantern opens and unfurls a bloom of soft light. An extraordinary interaction where technology is used to bring people together.
Spin me a Yarn by Studio Vertigo (UK)
A giant ball of wool has fallen down from an old crane and floated across the water. The illuminated and unusually large scale forces us to view this work in a completely different way, playfully changing the meaning of our relationship to ordinary objects and our environment. Do you follow the illuminated thread and find the secret second ball?
Route Amsterdam Light Festival
Edition 11's route runs through the eastern part of the city centre and is about 6.5 kilometres long. The 20 light artworks can be admired from both water and land. Take a stroll through wintry Amsterdam and be inspired by extraordinary works of light art along the way. The lights are on daily from 17:00 to 23:00 (on New Year's Eve until 20:00).
