Meet the companies changing the game in smart mobility
Picnic

When you think of smart mobility, you might not first think of online supermarkets – but Picnic sets itself apart from other grocery delivery services with its unique smart mobility centred approach. By operating a fleet of electric vehicles, Picnic ensures efficient and eco-friendly deliveries. In 2022, the company collaborated with ChargePoint to introduce a cloud-based fleet charging system, optimising energy consumption, cutting costs, and keeping enough vehicles available. Additionally, Picnic has equipped its warehouses with solar panels to power its fleet and utilises a smart grid to return surplus energy to the grid, reducing waste.
E-flux by Road

E-flux by Road simplifies the process of finding EV charging stations for both individual drivers and businesses. Their platform includes a charge card and a mobile app that help drivers locate charging points with ease. For businesses, they provide tools to manage charging stations, handle transactions, and support drivers. With over 5,000 charging locations, E-Flux by Road contributes to the wider adoption of electric vehicles through user-friendly solutions.
TomTom

Headquartered in Amsterdam, TomTom develops smart mobility solutions through navigation technology, real-time traffic data, and mapping services. Their traffic data helps drivers find efficient routes, reducing congestion, while their high-precision maps support autonomous driving. TomTom also provides tools for electric vehicle drivers, such as charging station locations and range prediction, to facilitate more efficient travel. Their technology is used by governments, car manufacturers, and logistics companies to improve transportation systems and road safety.
Fastned

Fastned is an Amsterdam-based company who are focusing on fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and is considered a key player in the smart mobility sector. Founded in 2012, Fastned operates a network of fast-stations across Europe, its mission is to make electric vehicle charging faster, more convenient and more accessible to everyone. In 2024, Fastned officially became B-corp certified as well as being issued €21.5 million in new bonds which brought the total investment in 2024 to €82 million. With Amsterdam having one of the most extensive EV charging points in Europe, with the aim to have 25,000 charging stations by 2025, Fastned’s fast chargers make a huge contribution to the city.
Greenflux

We’ve mentioned companies focused on providing electric charging solutions, but what about the software and hardware systems needed to scale EV charging? That’s where Greenflux comes in. Greenflux provides a cloud-based platform for managing EV charging stations, equipping users with tools to monitor and control charging points remotely as well as optimising energy use and enabling smart charging. Their data analytics help both operators and users make informed decisions about their data consumption and make any changes necessary. With more and more people switching to electric cars, Greenflux plays a key part in making sure that the correct infrastructure and technology is in place so that the transition is seamless for everybody.
Roboat

Born out of AMS Institute and MIT, Roboat is a project that is providing a solution to congestion and traffic jams. Originally focused on autonomous boats, Roboat has now developed software that can be installed on existing vessels to tackle the waterways. Whether it’s the canals that run through Amsterdam or the Parisian Seine. Their autonomous software can be used for both passenger routes and waste collection, the software includes technology such as LiDAR, cameras, and real-time mapping to detect obstacles and dynamically adjust their route – similar to self-driving cars but for water.
