85 years of Andriessen I SOLISTI

Homage to one of the greatest composers in the Netherlands, Louis Andriessen. He died on 1 July 2021 and was one of the greatest composers in the Netherlands. Ensemble I SOLISTI pays tribute to the master in the Muziekgebouw. Not only with his work but also as a pedagogue, he influenced international musical life that could hardly be overestimated.

Extending String Quartet - Fellow Travelers

Against a backdrop of photos, the Ragazze Quartet plays music by composers with an American history: Fellow Travelers. Dvořák pursued fortune, Bartók was on the run. Both couldn’t settle in the New World, but they wrote some of their most beautiful compositions there.

A twentieth-century Grieg: Leif Ove Andsnes

��A convincing advocate for forgotten music’, De Nieuwe Muze called Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes. Last season, he performed Dvo��ák's unknown Poetic Tone Paintings in the Muziekgebouw. This time, the pianist plays the only surviving sonata of his compatriot, Geirr Tveitt, who died in 1981. Confidently, Andsnes juxtaposes these notes with Brahms’ Fantasien, which are as lyrical as they are meditative.

Tchaikovsky's emotionally charged last symphony is subject to the mystery of his death a week after its premiere. Is this autobiographical music, did Tchaikovsky commit suicide, was his homosexuality the reason for this? Nobody knows. This mysterious history is the starting point for a journey of discovery through the Symfonie Pathétique, with the largest Pynarello ensemble to date. This performance can be seen and heard in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.
