90 minutes long with Roscoe & Romy

Amsterdammers are increasingly growing apart. Everyone is in their own bubble. That's why we brought together two Amsterdammers who seem to have nothing in common. Yet, they are more alike than they think.

This meeting is between Technical Support Engineer Roscoe Menke (41), pictured on the left, and Romy Heere (13), a student and model/actress.

What did you think of the meeting?

Romy: 'Very nice. I think Roscoe is a very nice man who is funny and sweet. I said I like Ajax, and so does he. And that we both like football.'

Roscoe: 'At the beginning, I found it quite exciting. I don't have children myself, so I was nervous. At first, we mainly talked about trivial things, but within three questions, I suddenly knew why we had been matched.'

What do you like to do in your free time?

Roscoe: 'I have a season ticket for Ajax, so I'm at the Johan Cruijff Arena every two weeks. Besides that, I love movies. I go to the cinema at least once a week. Especially Science Fiction films like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I recently attended a Star Wars marathon. Watching the Star Wars films for 25 hours straight. Super cool. I'm fascinated by an exciting story of another world.'

Romy: 'Off to the thrift store with my bestie! Buying clothes together and dressing up. I even found Ajax plates the other day.'

How do you convince someone to go to a thrift store?

Romy: 'It's really fun to do with friends.'

Roscoe: 'Just try it sometime! Let yourself be taken in by a story. It's best to immerse yourself in the story of the film. For example, Star Wars is more than just lightsabers and green creatures. It's a whole world with its own political situation. Languages have even been developed for all those different peoples. Isn't that amazing!'

During Amsterdam 750's anniversary year, there is plenty to do in the city. What are you most looking forward to?

Roscoe: 'The Opening Concert Amsterdam 750. The programme is extremely diverse, including cabaret, dance, music, and ballet. For example, Trijntje Oosterhuis will also be there. I think she's very good, but I wouldn't normally go see her perform. This way, you experience things you usually wouldn't go to.'

Romy: 'I'm also going to the Opening Concert Amsterdam 750. Mainly because Donnie is performing there. I also love the song Leef by André Hazes Jr. and he will be there as well.'
