Of course, all the important and exciting events pass by, such as the Toll Privilege, which gave a huge boost to the city's economy on 27 October 1275.

This remarkable Jewish Monument narrowly escaped demolition during the construction of the Amsterdam metro, when plans called for a four-lane road through the area. Because of strong resistance from local residents and heritage activist Geurt Brinkgreve, the house was preserved and now you can visit it for free on April 8.

Huis met de Beelden

The future of the House with the Statues was uncertain in the 1960s and '70s, as Amsterdam’s historic centre faced decay and vacancy. In 1973, antique dealer Herman Bill bought the building and converted its 35 rooms into 8 classical-style apartments. To ensure its preservation, he named Stadsherstel as preferred buyer in his will, which purchased the building and started renovations in 2020. You can visit this beautiful historic building for free on April 18.
