Black Family Archives: Theorizing on Death, Mourning, and Discomfort
A workshop on grief, loss and heritage within the Black community, from family histories and oral tradition.
Black Family Archives: Theorizing on Death, Mourning, and Discomfort
During Black Family Archives, Black thinkers and makers explore themes of death, grief, and discomfort within the context of anti-Black racism. Using family stories and oral history, they explore how personal experiences contribute to collective memory and healing. The session brings together academics and artists to reflect on the impact of structural injustice and the power of narrative resistance. An intimate and urgent workshop in which Black mourning is central.
