Workshop: make an ode!
Were you aware that history is mostly told from a male perspective? The Amsterdam Museum believes it is high time to change this, with your help. You can enrich the city's history by making an ode to a woman who has contributed significantly to Amsterdam! This ode will become part of the Amsterdam Museum’s collection. You will be helped during the workshops on July 6 and 7.
Workshop: make an ode!
An ode to Amsterdam women
On 6 and 7 Juli, from 15:00 to 16:45, the Amsterdam Museum is hosting special free workshops at its own locations and at several partner locations inviting you to pay tribute to a woman who has a link with Amsterdam. This could be a public figure from history, but also your own neighbour. What role has this woman played in the city, what influence has she had on you and why does she deserve an ode? The link with Amsterdam is important in your ode.
Whether you already know who you want to pay tribute to or not, we will help you get started during this workshop. After the workshop you can submit your ode (or complete it at home first, of course).

The locations
Amsterdam City Archives
Amsterdam City Archives is the memory of the city, with an impressive collection of more than 50 kilometres of archives, millions of maps, drawings, prints, and extensive sound, film and photo archives. As the legal repository for the municipality of Amsterdam, the City Archives is committed to collecting, managing and making accessible the city's rich heritage.
The Black Archives
The Black Archives is a historical archive and cultural centre where people can go for inspiring conversations, substantive activities and books from black and other perspectives that often remain underexposed elsewhere. The Black Archives is temporarily located in the Amsterdamse Poort in the Bijlmer area, where a lively community is now located.
House Willet-Holthuysen
Step into the past in the impressive Huis Willet-Holthuysen in the centre of Amsterdam. The double mansion on the Herengracht is furnished with various period rooms, rooms that still look as they did in the past. The house takes its name from the couple who lived here at the end of the 19th century: Abraham Willet and Louisa Holthuysen. They collected a lot of art and objects and had the interior designed to their own taste.
Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel
The Amsterdam Museum is a place to share knowledge and meaningful stories with each other, and to look at each other with more understanding. We discuss everything that is going on in the city, in the past, present and future. In this way, we make the city livable together, for everyone.
