Couleur Vocale: Chamber Choir Vocoza under the direction of Robert van der Vinne

In the ancient Catholic tradition of All Souls' Day, people focus on those souls who are no longer with us physically but remain present in spirit. For centuries, countless composers have been inspired to write requiems based on the traditional Latin text. This year, chamber choir Vocoza presents a unique requiem—a pastiche of sections from eleven different polyphonic requiems spanning five centuries of music, from the early Renaissance to the present day. A true "re-quiem."

From the Lux Aeterna by the Belgian composer Jean Richafort in the first half of the 16th century to the In Paradisum by the Ukrainian composer Galina Grigorjeva in 2012. The beautiful double-stroke of the Requiem aeternam by Herbert Howells forms a 20th-century anchor point, together with the Kyrie and Agnus Dei from the masterful double choir by Frank Martin, who kept the work hidden for more than forty years as 'something between me and God

About chamber choir Vocoza

Vocoza was founded in 1980 as a singing association by Paul Hameleers to practice choral singing in every culturally responsible form and thereby to arouse and deepen the love of this expression of beauty among its members and its audience” (from the statutes). To this end, the chamber choir attracts trained and experienced singers who together manage to reach a fairly high level. The name of the choir refers to the area around Vondelpark and Concertgebouw. In 1990, Ira Spaulding became a conductor. From 2008 to 2021, Vocoza was led by Sanne Nieuwenhuijsen. The main emphasis was on 20th and 21st-century choral music from Europe and the US. The bar was raised ever higher. The choir has sung, among other things, the Motet for the Cardinal by Daan Manneke, Le vrai visage de la paix by Rudolph Escher and the Dutch Requiem (the Deutches Requiem by Brahms in the retranslation by Jan Rot). The choir also contributed to several films by visual artist Guido van der Werve. Since the end of 2021, Vocoza has been led by singer and conductor Robert van der Vinne. The choir currently has 27 members.
