Enter the Bamboo
Hélène Seiyu Codjo and Cornelius Shinzen Boots meet for the first time and each present a solo set rooted in deeper musicality, and at least one duo and/or improvisation. The shakuhachi has enchanted both lifelong woodwind players with its world of nature, meditation, technical limitations and expressive possibilities.

Nature blues corporate identity
Pennsylvania native and certified Grand Master (dai shihan) Cornelius Boots presents the living tradition of shakuhachi. His concert meditation program features traditional Buddhist devotional repertoire (or 'honkyoku') in addition to original compositions in his signature nature-blues house style and arrangements of John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Lee theme music. This music is a transmission of the power and vitality of the breath, as it both emerges from and connects us to nature. The old monastic natural bore (jinashi) and larger, low-tuned flutes (bass or alto) are highlighted in this program: they offer a strong connection – for both the player and the listener – with a deeper, almost ancient past: echoes from the ancient days of the earth.
Enchanting sound
Certified shakuhachi grandmaster (Dai Shihan) Hélène Seiyu 聖 plays both traditional music and modern pieces, own compositions and improvisations. She performs solo or with Japanese and/or Western musical instruments in various European countries. She uses the flute to reveal her deeper feelings. Her goal is to make the shakuhachi more known and to introduce people to the enchanting sound of this flute and its power. Hélène has released two CDs with her own compositions: African Memories and Reflection . The spirituality of the shakuhachi and playing in nature are essential to her.
