Maat Saxophone Quartet
This year the theme of the Grachtenfestival is 'Metamorphosis', and the Maat Saxophone Quartet has responded to this in its own unique way. With their unique performance, based on Kafka's novella of the same name, the transformation of the main character, Gregor Samsa, is brought to life in an exciting virtual opera.

One morning, after a long, exhausting day at work, Gregor Samsa wakes up shocked to discover that his body has been transformed into something unrecognizable. Alone and increasingly isolated, Gregor feels himself struggling for his existence.
The Maat Saxophone Quartet, awarded with prizes such as the Dutch Classical Talent Award and the Prémio Jovens Músicos, functions as 4 'singers' in this virtual opera composed by Nuno Lobo. Their melodies respond to animated video projections, giving voice to the inner struggle of Gregor Samsa and his family.
