Marta Popovici is a jazz-influenced singer-songwriter who uses strong imagery to create an emotional journey to a cathartic release. Born and raised in Romania, she is currently based in Rotterdam. She challenges the borders of musical genres, freely flowing between jazz, art-pop, folk, fusion, and spoken word.

CHRYSALIS

Her newest project, CHRYSALIS, is a concept album inspired by the image of the butterfly chrysalis as a source of ambivalence. It is a safe, warm space but also a danger that threatens to constrict. It is isolation but also an opportunity for introspection. It brings fear of the unknown but also excitement for what is to come. It is a transitional state, a space of transformation.

With this new project, Marta shares a personal take on ambivalence as a source of growth for society, using music to build resilience and find peace at the intersection of opposing forces.
