Driving Just To Drive
Everyone is looking for happiness - and while it may be impossible to find, Matt Maltese is getting closer. For his 4th album, the musician finally allowed himself to look back at the past in order to look ahead. In 'Driving Just To Drive', Maltese reflects in his freest way on the sense of place, the meaning of where you grew up and the secret of simply enjoying the moment. Album cycles have long defined his life - the 25-year-old's growth can be charted along with his music, and it is only with this record that the young man finds peace between past and present, slowly becoming better himself.
Opened up and settled
On this record, Maltese shows himself to be even more open and settled: he embraces new sounds, but returns to the most organic version of himself he knows. He's always wanted to find a way to make people laugh, but here he finds ways to charm while letting his guard down. The result is something bittersweet and deeply, authentically emotional.
This lush, almost cinematic sound is also due to the fact that Maltese is working with a producer for the first time in a long time and with Josh for the first time. It was only after thriving in a songwriting space, collaborating with Joy Crookes, Celeste, Etta Marcus and more, that the Maltese better realized how he wanted to write for himself.
