Long walks

The Oxen Song is a 54-day walk through the Netherlands, England, Wales and Ireland from Oss to Skellig Michael via Oxford to compose an epic cycle of stories set to music. Inspired by troubadours and poets of antiquity, in the tradition of the Tain, Edda, Mabinogion and Beowulf and the Canterbury Tales, composer Kate Moore is inspired to write her own stories while walking long distances and composing with a lyre and vielle, which she carries with her.

Heart Ensemble

Founded in 2017 for their debut concert at Amsterdam’s Orgelpark featuring the work of composer and artistic director Kate Moore, Herz Ensemble is an eclectic collective of outstanding musicians sharing a common aesthetic and an unbridled desire for the raw energy, creativity and vitality of new music. Having worked together in various ensembles and orchestras for over a decade, this collective of musicians was brought together by Moore to perform and record her most important works, and to curate those of her contemporaries.

KATE MOORE | ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2024

Every summer, Plein Theater invites an artist-in-residence, an artist who gets a few weeks to further develop a performance and involve local residents and interested parties in the creative process. They are very excited to welcome composer Kate Moore as the artist-in-residence 2024!

Kate Moore herself lives in Amsterdam East and is not just any composer; she has earned international recognition and her works are performed by leading ensembles. She has won several awards, including the Gieskes-Strijbus Podiumprijs in 2022 and the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulenprijs in 2017. She has also founded her own ensemble, the Herz Ensemble.

With her research, the composer challenges herself to explore the creative process through writing, composing, improvising and documenting in dialogue with nature and the environment, while walking long-distance routes with musical instruments.
