Bear Claws
The Academic broke through in 2017 with their song Bear Claws , which mainly owed its success to its live music video in which the band used live looping. In 2018, their debut LP Tales from the Backseat reached number one on the Irish Albums Chart.
The band is mainly influenced by the retro rock from the 2000s, and is therefore often compared to bands like The Strokes. They also see artists such as Talking Heads, New Order, and Elvis Costello as important sources of inspiration. In 2023 they released their second album, 'Sitting Pretty', and were the support act for singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson during his tour in America.
