The Priest’s Paradox Rembrandt Frerichs, Maripepa Contreras + Vinsent Planjer

Pianist/composer Rembrandt Frerichs, drum whisperer Vinsent Planjer and oboist Maripepa Contreras take on the challenge of making music with the 31-tone Fokker organ as a starting point. The organ is countered by Planjer's whisper-soft drum kit with its Persian tombak (drum) and the melancholic duduk (reed instrument) of Contreras that can mourn deeply in the microtones of the rich melodies from the ancient Middle East.

Classical and jazz

Frerichs grandfather was an organist and apparently blood is thicker than water. Both Frerichs and Contreras play classical and jazz. Contreras and Planjer share a love for the colours of old Arabic and Persian music. The three of them have an enormous dynamic range. In this concert they play almost inaudibly soft when Frerichs exchanges the organ for the clavichord, but they also fill the space with the church organ registrations of the Fokker organ.
