Post-punk
The Belgian quintet Whispering Sons brings a dark and unique mix of experimental and hectic post-punk. The driving instrumentation, combined with the deep and dark voice of Fenne Kuppens, creates an ominous atmosphere that has been inherent to their music since the beginning of their career. Their ferocious and captivating performances are as infamous as their music and give the band the status of an unmissable live act.
In recent years, the band has slowly but surely pushed and exceeded their own boundaries. While their debut album Image (2018), was theatrical and widescreen, their latest album Several Others (2021), focused more on their greatest strength: pure, unpretentious intensity. They are currently working on a sequel, all the more reason to visit this show in Melkweg.
Probation Baby
The band have brought along Plexi Stad as support. Plexi Stad creates a unique mix of melancholy and infectious rhythms in their unpredictable music. The group from Antwerp released their first EP last year, called 'Probation Baby'. In their music, Plexi Stad transforms cheerful melodies into a dark sound that can be compared to James Chance & The Contortions - and the singer's poetic punk sound is both seductive and dismissive. Their second EP 'Siren Dance' is expected in early 2024.
Plexi Stad is supported by Liveurope: the first European initiative that supports concert halls in the promotion of emerging musical talent from Europe.
