Claim Your Space – Mi Oso Es Mi Kas
Every year, unique archives are donated to the City Archives by Amsterdammers and Amsterdam organisations. These archives reflect the diversity of life in our city, now and throughout the centuries. In 2025, these archives will be in the spotlight with the Claim Your Space project. In this project, archive creators will be given the opportunity to exhibit their story in the City Archives' Treasure Room. The Mi Oso Es Mi Kas Foundation will be launched.

Discover the impressive story of the Mi Oso Es Mi Kas Foundation
This special foundation established a center in 1986 where girls and teenage mothers in Amsterdam Zuidoost could meet each other. It was a place for recreation, support and information, especially aimed at young Surinamese and Antillean women. Although the doors closed in 2007, the story lives on in the City Archives, which welcomed the archive in 2004. Now the story of this former foundation is being brought back to life via Claim Your Space.
From Saturday 8 February you can discover the impressive story of the Mi Oso Es Mi Kas Foundation in the Treasure Room. Learn more about the inspiring founder Elfriede Sinester and the impact the foundation had on the community. In addition, you can enjoy the documentary Mi Oso Es Mi Kas: binnen zonder klokken , made by Elfriede's grandchildren Giorgio and Onitcha Toppin, in the Filmzaal.
The exhibition can be seen from 8 February to 15 June 2025 in the Treasure Room. The accompanying documentary Mi Oso Es Mi Kas: binnen zonder klokken will be shown in the Filmzaal until Wednesday 5 March.
