Johan Arp (1946)

Johan Arp (1946), born and raised in Amsterdam-Noord and living in Zuidoostbeemster, is an artist who has cherished his passion for drawing from a young age. During his military service he followed a course in Advertising and illustrative drawing at the Famous Artists School in Amsterdam. This training formed the basis for his creative career, in which he was able to combine his love for art with his work as a creator of cartoons, logos and illustrations.

His artistic development blossomed further by taking courses at the Stichting Kunst en Vorming Amsterdam (SKVA) and the Cultuurhuis Wherelant in Purmerend. Here he learned the trade from artists such as Igor Kusmirak, Guus Glass and Pieter Schmits. These experiences further refined his style and technique and helped him find his own voice in the art world.

Johan Arp draws inspiration from his favourite themes, including the canals and harbours of Amsterdam, intriguing portraits and the beauty of water. His work is a mix of landscapes, abstract compositions and lively expressionist pieces. He draws inspiration from the colourful paintings of Franz Marc and the tranquil etchings of Willem Witsen. Marc's blue, which is an important element in his work, can be seen regularly in his creations. Johan Arp believes in the power of innovation and continues to experiment with different techniques and styles.
