Masks and Mirrors: Carnival Rituals
Works from 11 artists
Carnaval is a time of contradictions: shifting identities to express hidden parts of our fluid selves, blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy, and rejecting established societal routines or expectations. The artists participating in Masks & Mirrors engage with celebrations and tensions surrounding carnivals in different cultures and traditions.
The show also extends itself beyond the exhibition space to present an immersive performance. Daria Fedorchenko and Hannah Rojer’s performance The Jester of the Crown: An Aquarian Exploration blends music, movement, and ritual to question authority, identity, and transformation—echoing the carnival's subversive energy and its potential for renewal.
