Eye Filmmuseum presents the first Dutch exhibition from Turkish filmmaker and photographer Nuri Bilge Ceylan. For the first time ever, Eye brings together Ceylan's films with a selection from his photography series Turkey Cinemascope. The combination of film and photography uncovers Ceylans cinematic vision and his sense for mise-en-scène and composition. It also elucidates universal themes within his work: estrangement, purpose, and life itself.
His style, characterized by wide shots, long takes and minimal movement, forces the viewer to appreciate the detail in his landscapes and dialogue. His films are inextricably linked to recent Turkish history and all its contrasts: between city and village, secular and religious, intellect versus simplicity, rich versus poor, man versus woman, and individualism versus collectivism.
The exhibition starts on January 17th, with a DJ-set bij Altin Gün member Jasper Verhulst, celebrated for his Dutch-Turkish psychedelic rock fusion.
