In 2024 it will be 150 years since the birth of Impressionism. In honor of this anniversary, the exhibition 'Vive l'impressionnisme! Masterpieces from Dutch collections' can be seen in the Van Gogh Museum, organized together with Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
Vive l’impressionnisme! Masterpieces from Dutch collections
The most beautiful works of impressionists
The exhibition is the result of a unique collaboration with other leading national public and private collections. The most beautiful paintings by artists such as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Berthe Morisot, Alfred Sisley and Paul Cézanne are on display. They captured the personal experience and incidence of light of a specific and changing moment - an impression - in loose brushstrokes and bright colours on the canvas.
The works stand side by side with impressionist pastels, sculptures, drawings and prints. The exhibition also shows how the visionary view and resolute actions of a number of individuals ensured that the Netherlands became richer in these French masterpieces, which have slipped through our fingers.
