4 May Remembrance day - The Remembrance Concert

On Sunday 4 May, we will jointly experience the 2 minutes of silence in the Concertgebouw via a livestream from Dam Square. With music as a universal language, we commemorate those who gave their lives for freedom and peace. After the 2 minutes of silence, the idiosyncratic Dutch pop artist Spinvis, together with the young Academicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, will let music speak. This is more than a concert: an ode to memory, resilience and freedom.

Spinvis and Flothuis

This year, Entrée, the youth association of Het Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouworkest, is organizing a special commemoration evening. In addition to the music of Spinvis, the work of Marius Flothuis is central. As a composer and resistance fighter, Flothuis was imprisoned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Second World War. Even in captivity, he continued to compose and gave music a voice where words failed. His inspiring story is shared by presenter and journalist Margriet Vroomans.

Just like in the rest of the Netherlands, there will be a 2-minute silence at 8:00 PM in the Concertgebouw. After the silence, Spinvis, together with the young talents of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, will take you on an impressive musical experience.
