18 live shows spread over 9 floors
On Sunday 13 April, Volkshotel will transform into a maze of music waiting to be discovered. Nine floors, nine chances to lose yourself in music. Guitars wail, drums make the floorboards vibrate and voices cut through the noise. With a line-up put together by Paradiso (Indiestad), Melkweg, Cinetol, Geertruida, Conservatorium Amsterdam and Broedplaats VKG, the fuse has been lit and the entire building will burn with music. Stroll, listen and walk away with a song that will stay with you.
What will you find in the musical maze in the Amsterdam Volkshotel?
A ticket gives you access to all concerts and the context program. More than 18 live shows and a market with merchandise, vinyl and memorabilia on the ground floor. Members of Subbacultcha, We Are Public and Indiestad get free entrance (limited places available). The timetable is shared, so you can put together your own program. Drinks and snacks bought at Volkshotel can be taken along on your discovery tour. You are welcome if you are 18 years or older.
Meet this year's curators and artists
Paradiso (Indie City)
Paradiso, the old church on Leidseplein, has been a pop temple for decades. Big names, new talent and packed nights. But it doesn't stop there. Paradiso curates shows all over Amsterdam, from large venues to hidden places like Doka. Their Indiestad platform keeps the Amsterdam indie scene moving and brings together beloved bands with the discoveries of tomorrow.
Acts : The Sunset Society / Zo Lief / Cardigan Inn
Milky Way
Melkweg is where music, film and nightlife meet. Housed in a former dairy factory, it has been the place to be for everything from hip hop to hardcore and electronic nights that last longer than you think. Here genres collide, crowds mingle and the night never ends when you expect it to.
Acts : Klankspoor / Kourosh / Yan Lâle
Cinetol
Cinetol is the stage for Amsterdam's underground sounds. Hidden in De Pijp and born from a former community center, this place is known for spotting fresh talent before the rest of the city. A small venue with big energy, where you come for one band and leave with three new favorites.
Acts : Kate Oram / Wilson A. / Gonzo Bimbo
Gertrude
Geertruida is part record label, part studio, part record store, and everything else it wants to be. Located in Haarlem, this DIY hub is dedicated to alternative sounds. It’s where the lines between artist and audience blur, creating intimate shows. Stick around long enough and you might just leave with a new favorite bandor at least a record to prove it.
Acts : Fix Everything / Euroboy / Water Damage
Conservatory of Amsterdam
The Conservatorium van Amsterdam is where future icons are shaped. Every year, around 1250 students work on their craft, with a focus on dedication, experimentation and pure love for music. For Live Resort, specially selected pop and jazz talents present their sound in unexpected corners of the building.
Acts : Carolina Gemmell / Eva van der Sterren / Dora Tomori / Loni Lila
VKG breeding ground
At the back of Volkshotel you will find Broedplaats VKG: home to some 250 artists, musicians, designers, photographers and craftsmen. VKG's workspaces are built for experimentation, creation and the development of ideas. A wide range of projects, creative makers and cultural entrepreneurship are created here.
