Lukas Olszewski: about 'Remember Me'
He says: "I didn't choose the story of 'Remember Me', it chose me, long before I knew it. Three years ago, in April 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, I was faced with the most painful situation ( that I could never have imagined in my life): I had to explain to my now 8 year old daughter that her mother suffered from a strange form of early dementia. At the young age of 36... That there was no cure (and still (is still not). Except that she, a beautiful and talented musician, could not feel that there was anything wrong with her.
For years I have been unconsciously searching for answers, for explanations for the changes in my partner's personality and behavior that I could not understand, for the root of our relationship problems that no one could help us solve, for a condition that even medical professionals is still widely unknown, but from which many people worldwide suffer without knowing it. Later I learned all about that condition.
This film is the result of my difficult personal healing process and a cry for awareness. The film is fictional, but my story is real, ongoing and universal."
Goal
With his debut film 'Remember Me' about the strange and treacherous disease Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Olszewski wants to share the story of a young family affected by this fate - in the hope of helping many others who suffer in the dark. He hopes that his film will help raise awareness of FTD and change the fact that most patients go many years without a diagnosis. Too many people live with the daily trauma of seeing their loved ones change before their eyes, while the medical staff are just as bewildered as she is. Lukas wants families to get help faster and have full support from the moment of diagnosis .
About the FTD Film Festival
The 14th International Congress on Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) will take place in Amsterdam in mid-September: ISFTD . The focus is on the brain disease FTD, after Alzheimer's the most common disease that causes dementia.
This disease mainly affects relatively young people, between the ages of 40 and 70. Bruce Willis was also affected by FTD, and he put the disease on the map for the general public.
The FTD FilmFestival offers a selection of films and documentaries about FTD. These are films for and by patients, family and their caregivers. With introductions and discussions by medical experts, caregivers and those involved.
The FTD FilmFestival is organized by Alzeimercentrum Amsterdam and three cinemas: Rialto , Cinema Amstelveen and FC Hyena . The FTD FilmFestival is supported by Amsterdam Convention Bureau of amsterdam&partners.
