Lukas Olszewski on: what makes Remember Me unique?

He says: 'I didn't choose the story of Remember Me' it had chosen me, long before I knew it. Three years ago, in April 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, I was faced with the most painful situation (that I could never have imagined in my life): I had to explain to my now eight-year-old daughter that her mother was suffering from a strange kind of young-onset dementia. At the young age of 36... That there was no cure (and still is). Except that she, a beautiful and talented musician, could not feel that anything was wrong with her.

For years I had been unconsciously searching for answers, for explanations for the changes in my partner’s personality and behavior that I could not understand, for the root of our relationship problems that no one could help us solve, for a condition that is still widely unknown even among doctors, but from which many people worldwide suffer without knowing it. Later I learned all about that condition.

This film is the result of my difficult personal healing process and a cry for awareness. The film is fictional, but my story is real, ongoing and universal."

There is a range of films and documentaries about FTD, for and by patients, family and their caregivers. In addition, the fact that Bruce Willis and his family consciously communicate about his illness has helped enormously to start the conversation about FTD in the past year.

That's why the FTD Film Festival, an ideal, accessible opportunity to make Amsterdammers think about FTD. A film or documentary with an introduction and a follow-up discussion with medical experts, those involved, relatives and care providers and documentary maker(s).
