Thursday August 29th - OUT (12+)
OUT follows the journey of Tom and Ajani, two young men who leave behind the restrictive life in a small Dutch village for promising Amsterdam. In this city, they hope not only to fulfill their dream of becoming filmmakers, but also to find a community that accepts them as they are. In Amsterdam's colorful queers scene, Tom and Ajani find both friendship and complex challenges.
This screening of OUT is a special screening; the film will premiere at Film By The Sea in September. Before the start of the film, lead actor Jefferson Yaw Frempong-Manson will provide a musical supporting act. In addition to being an actor, he is also a musician with a love of soul, pop and R&B.
Friday August 30th - Wild Amsterdam (ALL)
Welcome to the urban jungle! For a nature documentary, you don't have to go far away at all; you can just stay in the city. Urban cat Abatutu guides you across mountain ranges of glass and concrete, across industrial savannahs and through sewage pipes: the habitat of a host of wild animals, trees and plants.
Before the start of the film, there will be a meet and greet with lead actor film cat Abatutu and a trailer will be shown of North Sea - Nature Untamed, a project by the makers of The New Wilderness and Wild Amsterdam.
Saturday August 31st - Yab Yum (12+)
More than a decade ago, the world's most legendary brothel Yab Yum was forced to close its doors after the exclusive club was taken over by the criminal circuit. The people who once made up the club's inner circle look back on those iconic years with a nostalgic eye. Lively, they tell their stories - both extravagant and painful - and take us back to the place where anything could happen that God forbid.
Before the main film Yab Yum, the short documentary Always look on the brightside will be shown, about Reinier Sijpkens and his famous music boat with which he tries to spread joy and positivity while sailing the Amsterdam canals. With these iconic stories, the film program is a tribute to Amsterdam.
Yab Yum will be followed by an aftertalk with director Anna Maria van 't Hek and the main characters from the documentary, including Yab Yum's former host Mitch, the ladies, bartender Tony and police officer Klaas Wilting.
